Innovation and Technical Expertise Londonwide
Welcome
to ASELB - the Association for Structural Engineers of London Boroughs
ASELB
(formerly known as SEMSELB) was originally formed over 25 years ago, to act in
an advisory capacity to the London Technical Advisors Group (LoTAG) on matters
of Structural Engineering. The principle aim was then as it remains now, to promote
best professional practice throughout the London Boroughs - considerable success
has been achieved through our pro-active and extremely effective system of networking.
ASELB
devises and arranges seminars that are held at the Institution of Structural Engineers
in the Spring and Autumn of each year, with presentations and contributions from,
industry, private practice, public and professional organisations as well as from
our own members. These are intended for the overall benefit of all members representing
the 33No. London Boroughs, who are able to meet, consult and exchange views and
ideas on structural matters of topical interest.
Authoritative
and appropriate guidance is periodically issued to its members on relevant matters
of structural importance. An elected Steering Group is responsible for channelling
the work undertaken by small working parties to its members. Points of contact
from within the organisation, with proven knowledge and experience in specific
subject areas including Building Regulations, Eurocodes, Assessment of High Rise
Buildings, Health and Safety, and Sustainability, have been established to offer
advice and guidance to other members.
ASELB
has also been responsible for a number of technical publications and continues
to be regularly involved with and contributes to the work of other professional
bodies. As a member of the National Steering Committee for the Inspection of Multistorey
Car Parks, the publication 'Recommendations for the Inspection Maintenance and
Management of Car Park Structures' was launched in 2002 at the Institution of
Civil Engineers. This document was produced in response to many concerns associated
with structural failures and the deterioration of car park structures that had
been raised in reports of the Standing Committee on Structural Safety (SCOSS).
Although primarily intended for the Owners and Operators of existing car park
buildings, this publication has been widely adopted for use by their professional
engineering and other advisors.
Actively
working through SCOSS and CROSS (Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety),
ASELB have been instrumental in raising a number of important and real concerns
regarding Structural Safety.
More recently, ASELB is pleased to announce its
support to the ICE Eurocode Expert Website through the establishment of a two-way
link between sites.
Our
congratulations to the Institution of Structural Engineers in this it's Centenary
Year - ASELB wish you every success in the celebration and promotion of events
to mark 100 years of Structural Engineering.
